Koti State ENT Hospital has been designated as a reception and treatment center for black fungus (mucormycosis) cases. The orders were issued on Saturday by K. Ramesh Reddy, director of medical education (DME) of Telangana. He said the node center was set up to handle cases on the instructions of Prime Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The DME noted that certain steroids are used as part of COVID-19 treatment, resulting in decreased immunity.
“Patients can be susceptible to fungal infections due to co-morbidities such as severe diabetes. One of these fungal infections is black fungus. Few cases are reported in different parts of the state, ”explained Dr. Ramesh.
